Douro Valley

Taking advantage of the long weekend we went to explore the Duoro Valley and Jose’s grandparents' town Carrazeda.
The best way to travel there is definitely by train, at some points you feel like you are travelling along in the river you are so close to it, and also the view of all the valley does the rest: it is an amazing place!

We had a lovely welcome by all of Jose's family and after a delicious lunch we went to explore the countryside. We had to walk by the train tracks and cross winding paths to find cave paintings from prehistoric times. Absolutely worth it!

In the evening we went to the local fire station to watch an ethnic theatre performance, which was interesting...

On Sunday we went to some small villages a short distance from Carrazeda. Once again we had a great lunch with Jose and his family and after we went to Festa da Cereja in Alfandega da Fe where we had the opportunity to sample some cherry food and drink and of course lots and lots of cherries.

Before dinner we went for a walk around the village where Jose's Grandparents live.

Lots of visits (III)

Our last visit of the round was planned to be to Marta Campos’ building, but she thought that it could be interesting for us (and it was) to see before the building beside which is being refurbished by the architect Inês Pimentel.
This building is  nowadays in the framework, so we could see the real structure and the composition of the structural walls, the Portuguese  typical “tabique”, the  slabs, etc.

Was very nice to discover a new view of the building and see how beautiful can be it only cleaning every covering in the walls and the ceilings.

Inês Pimentel telling us the concept and the develop of her project

Looking the composition of the structural walls

We discovered also very nice gardens behind the buildings!

Then we went to see the other building, where Marta explained us the concept of the project and how the building process is at present.
In this case the building was almost finished so we could see it in a different way.

The same week we also had  a conference in the “Universidade Católica Portuguesa” in the event of the “Dia Mundial do Ambiente” where José, Rita Ferreira, and the team explained the project from the ideas in the beginning that created Arrebita!Porto to our last designings during our stage.
After we had a discussion with the audience about the concepts we talked about.

Lots of visits (II)

We have had also more and more visits (and we liked every place!) The next one was the Atelier des créateurs, a very nice rehabilitated building which nowadays houses a sewing workshop.

The main idea of the project was to integrate the new platform that provides more work space with the rest of the building, but always showing what is new and what it is not.

Also, the same day we went to Reboleira building because we had a photoshoot with DOMUS magazine. So don’t miss July-August edition, Arrebita will be in it!

Lots of visits (I)

We have had a schedule full of visits and a lot of work so to can enjoy the piece of sun that appears only some days we have decide to work outside in a peaceful spot in Mira Gaia.

It is possible to work and enjoy the sun!
The first visit we had was to Palacio do Conde do Bolhão, an amazing but eventually not very known place that is been refurbished to be part of a theatre academy . The rehabilitation project has tried be respectful with the history that this building has, and we think they have done it very well.
We advice everyone to visit it when it is finished.

Some parts of the building were in a very bad state

We all enjoy the visit and want to see it finished
