Lots of visits (III)

Our last visit of the round was planned to be to Marta Campos’ building, but she thought that it could be interesting for us (and it was) to see before the building beside which is being refurbished by the architect Inês Pimentel.
This building is  nowadays in the framework, so we could see the real structure and the composition of the structural walls, the Portuguese  typical “tabique”, the  slabs, etc.

Was very nice to discover a new view of the building and see how beautiful can be it only cleaning every covering in the walls and the ceilings.

Looking the composition of the structural walls

We discovered also very nice gardens behind the buildings!

Then we went to see the other building, where Marta explained us the concept of the project and how the building process is at present.
In this case the building was almost finished so we could see it in a different way.

The same week we also had  a conference in the “Universidade Católica Portuguesa” in the event of the “Dia Mundial do Ambiente” where José, Rita Ferreira, and the team explained the project from the ideas in the beginning that created Arrebita!Porto to our last designings during our stage.
After we had a discussion with the audience about the concepts we talked about.

Lots of visits (II)

We have had also more and more visits (and we liked every place!) The next one was the Atelier des créateurs, a very nice rehabilitated building which nowadays houses a sewing workshop.

The main idea of the project was to integrate the new platform that provides more work space with the rest of the building, but always showing what is new and what it is not.

Also, the same day we went to Reboleira building because we had a photoshoot with DOMUS magazine. So don’t miss July-August edition, Arrebita will be in it!

Lots of visits (I)

We have had a schedule full of visits and a lot of work so to can enjoy the piece of sun that appears only some days we have decide to work outside in a peaceful spot in Mira Gaia.

It is possible to work and enjoy the sun!
The first visit we had was to Palacio do Conde do Bolhão, an amazing but eventually not very known place that is been refurbished to be part of a theatre academy . The rehabilitation project has tried be respectful with the history that this building has, and we think they have done it very well.
We advice everyone to visit it when it is finished.

Some parts of the building were in a very bad state

We all enjoy the visit and want to see it finished

Archaeological Excavation

First step in the building's basement for team 5 ! A smell of stagnant water and plenty of spider webs welcomed us... The aim of this day was to do the archaeological survey of the building's foundation. We went on site with archaeologist Susana Andreia to dig under the (rotten) wooden floor of the basement.

Archaeologist Susana Andreia Preparing The Excavation

Our wish was to find some golden treasure or some bones from another century. So we dug for 5 cm taking care of every singular object (mainly pieces of iron) before to discovered...

This day was an occasion to discover how archaeologists work (define a place to dig, take measurements, excavate layer by layer, draw what we found and take measurement again) and to talk about the history of Porto.

4000 Atelier

Saturday the 25th was the 8th open working day in Arrebita's office for the 4000 Atelier event.
We took advantage of this event to have an office spring cleaning. Now if you visit the office you will find a clean blackboard with beautiful drawings, a new panel to let you write your impressions about the project, and a table with the partner material samples that we will be used in the building !

Spring Cleaning

So, architects, students, partners, kids from the neighbourhood or simply curious people, passed (through our open doors) to our nice office to discover the project or to keep up to date with the work we are doing here. Different presentations were given:

  • A general presentation about Arrebita; the origin of the project, how it was born and how it works nowadays
  • A presentation of the building (located to reboleira 42): its history, its actual condition, and the refurbishment planned
  • A presentation of A!BOX: a modular box for different functions

Presentation of Arrebita
People stayed around after the presentation to have a look on the drawing, to ask some questions, or just to talk with us about our impressions and our experiences. A great time to exchange ideas !

After Meeting Exchange

We also had time to visit some other architecture ateliers and to discover the rich architecture community in Porto. This day finished by a dinner between people from Arrebita around the (supposedly) best Francesinha of Porto and then with a cocktail for all the participants of the 4000 Atelier. A way to know and to have contact with the other Ateliers of Porto!
